The Knife's Last Call
Featuring the Macintosh All-Star Band

Andy Ihnatko kicks off the party in SF, 2002
with a ROCKIN' National Anthem
(Click images to play and be patient!)

And Scott Scheinbaum introduces The Band!

If you want to know how this party came to be, please read my still in-progress article. The videos are UP; and then of course, this new party of a different scale pictures will follow! I managed to get two of the videos up above. This page contains particulars about The Knife's Last Call, Macworld San Francisco, 2002.

This is NOT a usable nor real ticket, do not download please.
This is the first time, since around 1990, that the general show going folks are invited to this private party. It is an open invitation because it seemed appropriate. The Mac market is changing. This is the last party being done with any sort of "knife" association. Not that it is really associated with that old dead column anyway. The individuals who wrote the column moved on a long time ago, the column was killed off last year, and the magazine who owned the name revoked permission to use it. Unfortunately, due to the present economy, we can't even offer you an opportunity for a free toast. But, we can give you a place to celebrate "newness" and a hot band to listen to while you do it!

The Knife's Last Call at The Last Day Saloon
Thursday, Jan. 10th, 10pm - 2am
Featuring the Macintosh All-Star Band

THE highlight of the party is the All-star Macintosh band, comprised of:
Drums/Percussion - Dave Hamilton, The Mac Observer and BackBeat Media
Lead Guitar - Paul Kent, Macworld Conferences
Rhythm Guitar - Bob Levitus, "Dr. Macintosh"
Bass - Duane Straub, Network dude at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Mark Jeffries, Network dude at Genetech
Keys - Scott Scheinbaum, Multimedia Producer
    Chris Breen, Macworld magaazine
Singers -
Tom Irish, WebKewl (design and web production firm)
Andy Ihnatko, Author and columnist
Ilene Hoffman, Hess Events List, MacFixIt, MacTech, Author

Directions and a map are below all my drivel.

Invited dignitaries can get their invitations from one of the band members. The easiest place to find anyone of us is in the Speaker's Lounge, most probably.

The general show going public is invited to attend for a $10 cover charge. You can show up and pay at the door. As the bar holds a good size crowd, the line should be minimal.

There will be giveaways at the party - but only folks who pay at the door are eligible to win! So bring a business card; or write your contact information down on paper and bring it with you!

Now for the thank yous to all who made this and the other parties barely possible: The dignitary invitation was processed in less than a week by Promografix. Thank you to them!
Please help support the party by supporting the vendors who supported the party! A heartfelt thanks for funding the Knife's Last Call goes to: MacTank

I'd also like to thank all the people who have helped me in arranging these parties over the past two years:
Ron Hanik who so graciously allowed deliveries to his door.
David Phillips who arranged for and delivered the t-shirts for the NY party.
Crockergraphics for helping with the biannual graphic emergencies.
Scott McCarty who took great pictures.
Sam Crutsinger who is doing, and has done the video.
Galleon Software, who did half the work at the first party.
Duan Straub, who did the video at the first party.
Scott Sheppard, Donna Sanclemente, and Chad Coleman for helping with advice at the wee hours of the morning.
Plus the amazing staff who worked hard and long at the doors of the parties:
Stephen Mielnicki, Pam Mielnicki, Marc LaFountain, William LH, Pam Borys, Al Tucker, Debbie Gates, Keith Putnam, Deborha Shadovitch, Mike Harvey, Chuck Goolsbee, Ellen and Jim (whose last names escape me now!), John Welch, and Larry McAhren.
And I apologize if I left anyone out - It is 5am, and I'm struggling to get this up before I leave for SF. :-)
Thank you all and ay the new year bring us all peace.

Ilene - 1/5/02
