Khim Collins
I am a 32 year old Macintosh Consultant living in the desolate and technology deprived prairie of North Dakota:-) Everything in my life seems to have been leading me here:-) I am currently working with the local ISP providing Mac Tech Support and training for their customers as a private contractor. I spend most of my time gardening or playing my guitar when I am not working on the computer and trying to keep up-to-date with the latest Mac technology. As you can imagine.. I don't get to do much gardening:-) |

| How did you personally get into using the Macintosh family of computers? |
I took a job lobbying friendly fire cases before the Senate Armed Services Committee in 1994. I needed a computer to send email.. cut long distance costs.. and do bulk snail mail. If I had only known then what I know now! Needless to say.. I left DC... and now work full-time as a Macintosh Consultant. I'm hooked for life! | |
| *Status: | Somewhere between a luminary.. and a user... LOL! But geek is darn close! | |
| First Mac:
|
Performa 630 CD | |
| Current Mac:
|
PPC 8600/300Mhz | |
| When did you get your first modem? | With my first Mac! The Performa 630CD came with a 2400 baud Global Village Teleport Bronze modem. I thought I was "in the know"! Until I logged onto eWorld and realized that I needed a faster modem.. soon:) | |
| Who did you call first? | The registration server at Global Village Communications:-) | |
| Present Occupation: | Computer Consultant; Auto Forum Volunteer Coordinator | |
| Claim to Fame: | I once was published in The Weekly Reader in the 3rd grade.. for a poem called "Seasons." Does that count? [Can we see that poem? :-) Ed.] | |
| Dream Job: | My dream job would be teaching folks how to use their new Mac's and get the most out of them (their Mac's that is... although a good amount of money would be nice!). Everything from the software they use... to writing a Web Page... to fixing their system... I could get use to that... :-) Of course.. it is just a dream. No one is going to come to Mac School. LOL! |
| Not So Random Thoughts... | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| Was there ever a time in your life that you had to "Think Differently?" What was the situation and what did you do? | |||
| Yes.. everyday:-) I live in a PC infested area. Everything is MicroSoft. I have had to spend long hours going to bat for Apple and Apple Software solutions. A good example is a local realtor here in town. They were using Windows 3.1.1 and wanted to upgrade to Windows 95 and use Access to manage their client database. Yikes! I noticed that they had 3 Mac 6100's in the office that they had for some reason stopped using. I priced them out a plan to network the Mac's together.. run their database using FMPro and saved them several hundreds of dollars and alot of headaches. They are much more efficient and much better organized using the Apple business solution I offered them. Sorry MicroSoft.. but your solutions are just too pricey!! hehehe.... | |||
| How has using the Macintosh computer changed your life? | |||
| I changed careers, lifestyles.. you name it.. it changed! And for the better! My life is more organized, more focused and easier to manage. Point and click.. LOL! Better than just adding water! | |||
| What is the weirdest thing in your office right now? | |||
| It would have to be my wooden Apple puzzle. I made it and painted it to look like the Apple Logo:-) I am not obssessed with Macintosh... I am not obssessed.... | |||
| My Passions are: | |||
| My Macintosh, Cooking, Gardening, Writing HTML, Horseback Riding, Playing Guitar, Writing Music, Recording my tunes on my Mac, Any thing with Astronomy, Astro Physics or Quantum Physics (especially the real odd theories)... and browsing the Web on my Macintosh. | |||
| If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive who would that person be and what would you ask them? | |||
| I would definitely have dinner with Carl Sagan! What would I ask him? Hmmm... probably, "Don't you remember me? I was the silly 10 year old in the 4th row who asked you to define Infinity!" | |||
| When I grow up I want to be: | |||
| Out of Debt? Well.. that is what I want to be. LOL | |||
| The question never asked: | |||
| Just once in my life.. I would like a man to ask me, "Will you marry me?" and mean it. |
