I am a web / interface graphics designer / multimedia programmer who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. I share my studio with several computers, my kid, my husband and two cats.

How did you personally
get into using the Macintosh family of computers?
An engineer friend invited me to his house to admire his new 512k Mac. He let me loose with Mac Paint. I was hooked and bought a Plus as soon as I had enough $$. By 1989 I was doing storyboards on Macs for a motion picture and working with a developer who was making a prototype HyperCard based storyboarding software. Apple sent evangelists to breathe down our necks every now and then. And MIT boys were nosing around too. It was fun. The movie was never produced, though.
Status: Uh, I'll go for "Hopeless" for $200, please.

I work on a Powerbook G3 with a roadrocket and a big Sony monitor which is networked with my 8500/120.
When did you get your first modem? My husband brought a two 400k modems home from work.
Who did you call first? Sheesh. I can't remember. We tried some free internet offer (there wasn't a www yet) using ProComm on the XT and then trying Red Rover or White Knight or some terminal emulation program on the Mac when we couldn't get the XT to work. We suffered for a while with the crummy modems and then gave up. (I remember looking forward to the bi-monthly "N-Z" BBS listings in Computer Shopper.) Later we scrounged a 1200k modem and joined Compuserve.
Present Occupation: Artist and gearhead Mom.
Claim to Fame: None lately. I made an animated rock video back when people said "What's MTV"? and one time I won an award. I am a certified goddess in HyperTalk, though. Since thats nearly a defunct language, I think it doesn't count.
Dream Job: I'd like a fine arts grant for the development of digital media. Or a writing grant. Or both.
Not So Random Thoughts...
Was there ever a time in your life that you had to "Think Different?" What was the situation and what did you do?
The struggle has normally been to think the same. I think bringing programming books to the playground when my daughter was a toddler was unusual. Friends and family questioned my intent. But I have have managed to keep a career AND stay at home with my kid. No one ever sat next to me on a parkbench complaining about Barney when I was reading "Inside Macintosh - Imaging with Quickdraw."
How has using the Macintosh computer changed your life?
I can do two things - draw and figure things out. Using a computer has made figuring things out a lot easier. Plus, I don't dribble art supplies on my clothes any more.
What is the weirdest thing in your office right now?
Outside of me, thats pretty subjective. My vote is for either the paint by number picture of a guy in a canyon with a burro or the mechanical hula girl.
My Passions are:
Drawing, reading, writing, figuring things out.
If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive who would that person be and what would you ask them?
Jesus. What do you think I would ask him?
Do you play a musical instrument and/or are you in a band?
I sing "Ring of FIre" in the car. My kid hates it.
When I grow up I want to be:
Taller. Definitely taller.
The question never asked:
Why aren't there any shareware font design programs for the Mac?

Just The Facts, Please...
Biographical Tidbits: My first weekend away from home alone was the Woodstock Festival. I bought tickets for it. Education: Charles Eames once told me to accept work only where I'd be learning - that education is a lifelong process. I took his advice and I've had interesting jobs and I have always liked what I do. I graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Printmaking.

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen and that is the basic building block of the universe." -- Frank Zappa
