Hey, Ilene. Sorry I don't have the time to be my usual, wordy self these days. So the answers will be a bit telegraphic. Hope it helps!
How did you personally
get into using the Macintosh family of computers?
I was in high school, taking print shop, and the teacher had a Mac Plus for us to use for design. At night, he moonlighted as a professional printer, and he offered to output our work on a (rare!) laser printer at work when no-one was looking. I made up a resume... I still have it somewhere. This must have been 1985 or so.
Status: I'd say I'm an expert user, although God knows I discover new ways to be clueless every day.
First Mac:

That Mac Plus was the first Mac I ever used, although I didn't own one myself until 1993. It was an LCIII (the pizza box!).
Current Mac:

When did you get your first modem? 1988ish
Who did you call first? Some local BBSes in Cincinnati (at 300 baud!). I was most active on "Law Talk:" Not because I cared that much about law, but because community members seemed truly engaged in the discussions.
Present Occupation: Macintosh Writer and Consultant
Claim to Fame: Produced and directed plays in high school and college. Edited Bisexuality: A Reader and Sourcebook (1990). Appeared naked at my senior recital.
It's been pretty much downhill since then.
Dream Job: Queen of the universe. Or is that thinking too small?
Not So Random Thoughts...
Was there ever a time in your life that you had to "Think Different?" What was the situation and what did you do?
We re-invent ourselves every day, and no single event can top that.
How has using the Macintosh computer changed your life?
No answer yet.
What is the weirdest thing in your office right now?
Wow... there are so many. Probably a small mobile made of laquered blowfishes: One big one and three small ones, each wearing a tiny sombrero. I inherited it when I moved into an office years ago, and those who remained begged me to take it with me when I left. It's unspeakably weard, ugly... and fascinating. A real conversation piece.
My Passions are:

If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive who would that person be and what would you ask them?
God. And I expect we'd have the usual dinner chat: "What're you up to these days," you know, that sort of thing. I expect s/he gets too much of that "Why is there so much suffering in the world" noise as it is -- who needs it?
When I grow up I want to be:
Younger.
The question never asked:
...is worth two in the bush. (This *is* a word-association test, isn't it?)

Just The Facts, Please...
Biographical Tidbits: See my personal page or (if you're daring) Education: No thanks, my brain is full. (Bachelor of Music in Composition) (He also plays the trombone.)
Location at Birth: Mount Kisco, New York. (About 40 miles north of NYC.) Current Location: San Francisco, California.
Where you've
been in between:
London; Ohio (Oberlin and Cincinnati); summers in Michigan, Maine, Florida; six months in Rotterdam, The Netherlands; a few other places. I've been to Paradise, but I've never been to me. Astrological Sign: Taurus
Available?: Who's asking? ;) Chat Nick: TGeller or Tom_Geller when I don't mind if people know it's me. I'm not telling you what name I use for secret flirting. ;)
Favorite Books: I tend toward non-fiction, especially humor and trivia books. I've been rereading some favorites lately: The Chronicles of Narnia, Microserfs, Flowers for Algernon .... Favorite Music or Band: I have pretty Catholic tastes. Locally, though, the crowns go to The Marginal Prophets (hip hop) and Amy X Neuberg (arty stuff).
Favorite Food: Quite a few. I'm quite proud of being a trencherman: I consume something like 5,000 calories per day. So whatever it is, there'd better be a lot of it! Cat or Dog Person: Both. I grew up with cats, and recently had my first dog. See The Story of Chiq'nbone for details.
